Snowboarding Alaska

Snowboarding FIlm

Growing up in Alaska, there was no way I wasn’t going to fall in love with snowboarding. It has been my favorite sport for almost a decade now, and I’m pretty bummed that I’m not able to ride like I used to. I find myself indulging more and more in great snowboarding films as the winter months are upon us.

Snowboarding films have come a long way with new technology and much bigger budgets. Although to this day is That’s It, That’s All is my favorite snowboarding film, coming this fall, it looks like there will be some competition with the release of The Art of Flight. With most of the same sponsors, I’m really anxious to see what The Art of Flight will bring to the table.

For those of you who have had the chance to play around with Trapcode Particular, in After Effects, you know that it is a very powerful and impressive tool. This project done by, Mattias Peresini, utilizes the strength of Trapcode Particular, Trapcode Sound Keys, and After Effects. It’s a great little project, that responds to music, and I’m looking forward to it becoming available for download.

While browsing through Vimeo, I came across this awesome video from Raoul Paulet. He describes this film as “a metaphorical short film about bikes, movement, freedom and love. He later goes on to say, “speed is like curiosity”. This is a great little short film, you can read more about it here.

With the new technology we have access to today, there are some pretty amazing things we can get accomplished. Slow motion is something I think we can all enjoy, and being able to slow things down and process in our mind the little details, is something I find very fascinating. The videos above were shot at 720p and 60 frames per second, through a Canon 7D. The videos were then edited with a plugin in After Effects called Twixtor, slowing things down to 1,000 and 2,000 frames per second. You can view more details here and here.
